Rooney's second novel 'Normal People' has just come out in the United States and was already designated the "Irish Novel of the Year" at the 2018 Irish Book Awards. Their influence seeps far beyond the classic novel and Hulu series of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, as well as the literary fiction it's inspired like Naomi Alderman's The Power and Leni Zumas' Red Clocks.
